Now after one month of the audit, researchers have discovered a number of security issues, including 8 critical, 3 medium, and 15 low-severity vulnerabilities in the popular encryption platform Vera Crypt.
“But now this decision makes me feel like they’re kind of unreliable. You should migrate any data encrypted by True Crypt to encrypted disks or virtual disk images supported on your platform.” Doubters soon questioned whether the redirect was a hoax or the result of the True Crypt site being hacked. But a cursory review of the site’s historic hosting, WHOIS and DNS records shows no substantive changes recently. What’s more, the last version of True Crypt uploaded to the site on May 27 (still available at this link) shows that the key used to sign the executable installer file is the same one that was used to sign the program back in January 2014 (hat tip to @runasand and @pyllyukko).Taken together, these two facts suggest that the message is legitimate, and that True Crypt is officially being retired. After True Crypt mysteriously discontinued its service, Vera Crypt became the most popular open source disk encryption software used by activists, journalists, as well as privacy conscious people.
First of all, there is no such thing as a perfect, bug-free software.
Even the most rigorously tested software, like the ones that operate SCADA Systems, medical devices, and aviation software, have flaws.
Vulnerabilities are an unfortunate reality for every software product, but there is always space for improvements.
“Hopefully, we’ll be able to keep True Crypt.” This entry was posted on Thursday, May 29th, 2014 at am and is filed under Other.
